Community Speed and Lorry Watch Volunteers
The Town Council is calling for volunteers to be trained as a Community Speed and Lorry watch activists. Volunteers are trained to monitor speed and register oversized lorries.
Under the Suffolk Police’s and Suffolk County Council’s guidance the information can be used to prevent unauthorised vehicles and speeding motorists. No summons can be issued if people are caught speeding, but those offending will be written to by the Police and repeat offenders will be identified and may lead to the Police operating their own speed cameras in an attempt to catch them.
Volunteers must submit a form to the Police, be vetted and then called for a training session by the Police. The Town Council have a small band of volunteers who are monitoring speeds in the Town.
